Transportation to Sabetta

Sabetta – is a small settlement on the east coast of the Yamal peninsula in the Gulf of Ob of the Kara Sea. Decision to construct a sea port and a liquefaction plant here has given a new impulse to this remote area. Construction of the port started in 2012 and the first sea vessels moored to its berths already in 2013.
The project of the port construction is executed by Novatec (Russia), engaged in exploration, production, processing and marketing of natural gas, with the participation of CNPC (China) and Total SA (France). The main mission of the new port is transportation of hydrocarbons reserves from the South Tambey gas field.
The project is unique in its complication. The port is constructed in a remote area without any transport infrastructure and with no local workforce available. Construction materials and workforce are supplied by means of sea-crafts and helicopters. Only about 70 days, from August to October, nature enables to carry out dredging operations and deliver cargoes by sea vessels without ice-breakers assistance.
The airport of Sabetta is planned to start operations as from the year-end 2014. The coastal infrastructure is also under construction.
